Chelsea and Man Utd have splurged almost £50m on injured stars’ wages this season – where does your club sit in list?

CHELSEA and Manchester United have forked out almost £50million in wages for injured players this season, it has been revealed.

The Blues and Red Devils have been among the most heavily-impacted teams in the Premier League when it comes to player absentees.

Combine this with huge wage bills and you have a recipe for a tonne of cash going down the drain.

Every club in the division have been impacted by injuries, though some have been more fortunate than others.

Data specialists at OLBG have now revealed the cost of these injuries across the division.

Starting out at the top of the tree, Chelsea have splurged almost £28m on wages for a staggering 16 crocked players.

The injury list - accounting for more than 1,400 days of injury - and consequent bill has been heavily populated by major stars such as Christopher Nkunku, Reece James and Ben Chilwell.

Man Utd are second in the wages list with nearly £20m splurged on players warming the treatment table.

These injuries have included the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro, Rasmus Hojlund, Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire at various times of the season.

Defending champions Manchester City come in third with just over £15.5m spent on injured player wages, although with only nine players missing the playing squad has not been heavily impacted.

Much of the money dished out for injured personnel would be spent on the recently returned Kevin De Bruyne, who earns £400,000-a-week, and Erling Haaland who earns £375,000-a-week.

The data reveals Tottenham are the team who have been most heavily hit by player absentees, with 19 stars being sidelined to amass almost 1,100 days out combined.

The absences of James Maddison, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero have seen the club splash more than £11m on wages for players not fit enough to feature.

Newcastle are another side to have been ravaged by injury this campaign, with big stars such as Joelinton, Nick Pope and Joe Willock all missing large parts of the season.

Arsenal come in next with just under £10m splashed on wages for injured players, with the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zichenko and Thomas Partey all missing for parts of the season.

League leaders Liverpool are around £2m short of Arsenal's figure despite having an additional star injured and missing 86 more days.

Champions League hopefuls Aston Villa are among the least impacted when it comes to number of players injured, though Tyrone Mings being sidelined represents a large wage on the Villa books.

Fulham are in the opposite state to Villa, with 16 players injured wracking up a hefty bill on crocked stars.

Brentford and Crystal Palace have both been without star players for much of the season through injury, such as Rico Henry and Michael Olise respectively.

Everton, who are facing a second points deduction, and Brighton also have a similar wage bill to their London counterparts.

West Ham have been fortunate to not face an injury crisis given the small nature of David Moyes' squad, but the absences of Michail Antonio, Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen in recent weeks have seen them wrack up a wage bill of around £2.5m.

Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth and Sheffield United all have a crocked player wage bill standing between just over £1.5m to £1m.

Burnley, Wolves and Luton have been the best at keeping their stars fit, and paired with far smaller wage bills this sees them coughing up a relatively small amount in terms of player wages on injured stars.
